Heroes of the Storm (hots)

My current opinion, having played for a few days:

Its no where near as fun as other mobas atm. many of the hero kits are un-inspiring, most heroes have anywhere from 1-4 stuns/cc. Some heroes share similar abilities - for example Illidan and Tyrael both have ults that dash to the the target unit, stunning it for 1+ second. Another hero has a dash 1.5s stun, a aoe 1s stun+knockback, and then a aoe 4s stun (ETC). Combined with how small the maps are, and how tight some of the corridors are, the game ends up feeling like a cluster flob in many situations, and team fights can be very unsatisfying when you are cc'd through the entire fight.

Many of the maps are kinda dull, most especially the pirate one, where you can literally never fight the enemy team and just collect dubloons, then turn them in and win by having the pirate ship bombard the enemy relentlessly. In general, a lot of the objectives in the game seem to be "we will fight over this mob/boss, then the winner will get the mob/boss to join them which then wrecks the enemy team". In other words, emphasis is placed on rewarding good play by giving your team a uncontrollable NPC boss mob to do the winning for you, instead of rewarding the player by empowering the player. The two maps where this is not entirely the case -> Garden/Dragon Knight map -> where the player himself turns into the boss mob to push with his team -> are largely considered much funner maps.

The game has potential however. The graphics are amazing, and the talent system is by far one of the most "potential" features in any moba I have played. The ability to customize your hero's abilities in game, while not a replacement for many of the mechanics the game is lacking, is single handedly the best feature I have every seen. Though currently, many of these customization options are lack luster, with some serious design reworking, the game could easily end up more engaging than LoL or Dota. Could.

Currently the most appealing thing for me is simply leveling up my characters and gaining bonus talents/gold to spend on skins/heroes etc rather than actually playing the game, which feels more like a grind.

From what I have seen by watching day9 I agree with this

"Combined with how small the maps are, and how tight some of the corridors are, the game ends up feeling like a cluster flob in many situations, and team fights can be very unsatisfying when you are cc'd through the entire fight."
