Server selection in competitive play

Hello,

I would like to point at issues connected with cross-server competitive play. The thing is, EU players (like myself) tend to get delay on NA servers and vice versa. Therefore the "home" team has simply huge advantage and whole game does not show who is better. So my question is. Are there any plans to solve this problem, or are we going to put it on faith and say "Lets hope i will not have lag"?

I play league and so far we lost 100% of games on NA server, won 100% of games on EU server against the same team. Both losses and victories were short, one-sided games. I dont think any more proofs are needed. We tried to sort this issue out ourselves but we didn't get further than to RPS which server to play on.

Anyway, there is option to make two separate leagues for NA and for EU which I believe is not that bad. At the end of season there can be clash of the best teams. Other option would be to make definite rules which server to play on or how to decide victor based on something else that simple number of wins (it would be like box, there is no need to finish the matchup with KO).

I know that this cross-server play does not affect many players, but since it affect some it is an issue (AoS is still decided more by a bad play than good, and a player with 5 second delay can hardly contribute with good plays). Not all of us have money to pay for better internet provider and even if we had, few games a month are not good enough reason to do so.

Thank you for your opinion on this subject :).

My internet is pretty shapty, a lot of people would laugh if I say the specs, and I played 2 days ago a bunch of games in the NA server (I'm from Spain) to see the new hero, and I barely noticed any lag.

So if my internet is that bad and I still do properly, Idk what the heck you guys have in your home, but I refuse to believe that it's worse than what I have here...

I heard F33DER lost to UFAM WingZ. Is this why the thread was started?

But no I think in the end this is an impossible problem to find a solution to. Simply because until internet worldwide reaches a certain standard where it is so fast there is no lag, people will keep getting lag.

Well that loss is part of the reason of this thread. But you understand that it is just annoying when you lose because of lag like that. Anyway I dont want people to think that I am mad so I start finding excuses. If I would I would say that they told us they had lag as well, so we agreed to play on NA. Then game started and they ofc had no lag, and we just stood like dummies in "teamfights" doing nothing because it was one big lag.

Btw from time to time I play on NA as well, and it goes fine often, but when we group up all from EU, game is lost... Don't know the reason for it, it just happens.

this is pointless, there is no solution that AoS can provide to fix this issue;

its totally dependant upon your Internet connection & performance of blizzards servers

what generally happens though is your Internet provider doesn't have a good connection between 2 countries & instead pays for the cheap option which means you get re-reouted through 5 other countries before it gets to wherever it needs to go & hence the lag

Hey Nazg.

Since I organize the league. I have constantly been keeping close watch on the server differences and how it affects the teams. I have found that if you occasionally log into NA/EU (whichever is the "away" server). Your lag there will decrease. This is just something I noticed.

Beyond trying to minimize lag the only option is to split the league into NA/EU portions.

For the most part this was brought to a vote last season, and it was chosen to keep the NA/EU mixed together. This can always be revisited.

I am always welcoming ideas to improve how the league operates. Any ideas are welcome, and I might end up using them if i like them.

Its possible we could set up a ladder whereby the lower teams on NA and EU are divided by geography… and only if you get up high enough would you face teams between servers. I will have to look at the logistics and how i would handle transfers between groups as you win and lose on the ladder system. Either way thoughts and suggestions are welcomed. Overall Best of 3 matches is currently the best fix.

If we can get rid of crappy ISPs in the world, this won't be a problem but we can't.

I pay 80 bucks a month for a shitty 30m/10m internet while I can get 100m/100m + for only 40 bucks while I live in Japan or when I travel to Korea.

The tournament should be no issue since it is decided by who is sponsoring the it. I'll be glad to see the EU region hosting their own tournaments with prizes. That will be very interesting.

Sphynx, it would be nice to set up some rules on cross-server matchup.

For example last "series", it was BO1, they would not agree to play BO3 and did not even bother to have discussion about server. So we agreed because we're sensible people and didn't wanna waste time. Anyway, it was waste of time in the end... Therefore there can be rules like : "In cross-server game you have to RPS for server otherwise you will be the looser of the matchup". Does not solve the problem, but at least it gives us a chance against stubborn team leaders ... Best option would be to have AoS updated on e.g. Korea servers and play entire series there so both NA/EU team has same chance of lags.

The only solution is to make games like EU vs EU or NA vs NA, it's not possible since every teams dont have EU + NA players. Actually theres no any other way to fix these lags :)

Read the rules, it does say RPS to decide server.

And I heard UFAM gave you your choice of first pick since you agreed to play on NA so stop trying to blame/refer back to that game.

Known problem, solution ? live in NA !

As the previous 2 tournaments were NA by default. And next one is first game NA aswell.

I'm moving in the in the summer because of this very issue.

Hey get shap on on EU turf less then talk.. oooooo. Quidditch was more than accomodating last tourney. Was fair for both servers
