We've concluded our review of the contest submissions.

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who has contributed. Each submission is a window into how the community expects each character to perform, and reflects how their designs will be approached in the future.

Upon further evaluation of the contest outline and the submitted designs, it didn't make sense to tier the designs. In place of the Collector's Edition, all winners will also receive access to a custom skin, unique to their account for the character they designed.

The winning designs are as follows (in no particular order):

Adamantium - Khyrak.Avenger

Khyrak's design made use of an easy to understand and consistent mechanic in Bleeding that we would like to explore. Since we are currently considering the standardization of additional mechanics such as Slow and Poison, it made sense to include Bleeding as well.

Jessika - Viper.Krell

Krell made sense for the archetype that it the viper was originally designed to portray. The use of stationary damage sources as part of an initiation tactic (in conjunction with pulls) is new to the genre and doesn't resemble anything we're currently aware of.

Quistmann - Psionic.Turraneth

Turraneth's unique gameplay has much to offer our exploration of standardizing alternative energy sources. While the concept seems a little complex at the moment, there is much value to be found in refining the mechanic.

We felt that these skillsets best reflected the character in which they are designed to portray, and will be moving forward with implementing them in the near future. I will contact the desginers and make adjustments as necessary to add them to the game's roster. Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thank you for all the submissions!

PS: Beta begins on 1/11, we will be testing Primal.Dehaka.

I love the choices too, I think these heroes were some of the best and were some of the ones that stood out, and I am glad to see a hero I helped the creater refine (Jesskia's viper), get picked. Hope to see them in game soon! I am quite sad that hitechgunner didn't submit his two heroes, I know he was planning to, and I had thought that they were all polished and ready for submitting, but I guess that he didn't get around to it.

Pity, I was quite hopeful that one of my suggestions, particularly Darkseeker would be chosen... if nothing else, his being blind and heroic passive was, at least IMO, a more interesting concept than any in the winning suggestions. Or it could be just creator's pride speaking. I guess the ult's main use being to enhancing his next non-ult skill was too much like Pentos, or maybe his mechanics were more complicated than the devs wanted to code....

On that matter, I think all the people that suggested designs and did not win should be told (not necessarily in great detail) why their designs did not win, seeing as they did put in a good amount of time and effort deserving at least that.

We can start with this one:

Clearly that ultimate (with an amazing namesake) deserved to win rather than anything here.

EDIT: Just had a quick glance at the prize, LOTV Collector's edition. I hope Red and EKCO can continue their excellent record when it comes to delivering SC2 prizes!

If AoS is still alive in 3/4 years..

Darkseeker was particularly interesting and received a pretty high score for uniqueness. However, it encountered problems with the idea of infinitely propagating "signals" being a likely burden on performance. Furthermore, Hunting Pulse needed a much, much simpler tooltip, and had to be presented in a way that would convey it's underlying concept on the field. For example, if I were playing against Darkseeker, how would I know that it was blind? How can I play against it? What sight-related tactics does it employ that are observable?

I do think that the idea of sight-related mechanics has merit, and I'll probably spend some time thinking about solutions to this as well, but it wasn't immediately obvious from the submission and thus was docked points for accessibility.

Hm, interesting heroes.. was kinda thinking mine http://www.aeonofstorms.com/index.php?/topic/4715-hero-hots-contest-automaton-eradicator/ was a pretty good one, but I'm the one that made it. There was no way to Beta it, so I couldn't do much beyond the 15 hours of concepting and "maths" to see what stuff should cost. At least I had fun making it, otherwise I'd be less happy about it. Oh well huh?
