JackyDawg
Hello all. I have played most of the heroes now and I think shadow is one of my favorites. Anybody have a guide/build/strategy that would be good for a newbie on him? my current build is as follows: Talents: WepDmg, WepSpd, Lifesteal, Health, Speed and Energy Items (in order of purchase): Hunters Hatchet, Machete, Phase Cloak, Iso. Pyre, Cont. Shard, Timesplitter, Khali Blade If anyone has something recommended that I should try, please say. Thanks!
Moo
The build I would reccomend for laning with shadow is: Machette, Stun Knife, Shinobi Style, Timesplitter, Phantom Menace, Hand of Mengsk, Contam Shard, Sliptide Scythe. Talents: Weapon Damage, Weapon Speed, Health, Armor, Movespeed, Energy. If you are jungling with him, add a hunter's hatchet as one of your starting items. The advantages of this build are high weapon speed, attack damage, movespeed, armor, and good spell resist. The main disadvantage is a low health pool. If you wanted a higher health pool, switching phantom menace or sliptide scythe for a Force of Entropy would give more health.

You have way too much agility which already cap your attack speed, I rather change into Galatic for free 1k shield
KDawgKilla
honestly i play shadow quite a bit and i find that it is more effective to get lost treasure to start it off, along with weapon damage, weapon speed, health, health regen, zeal, and move speed talents. after lost treasure go for machette+hunters then stun knife. pyre next then lightning rod. turn lost treasure to explosive retrofit then get darwins, upgrade to cerebro then buy paralax, after that buy yamato. the key to this build is spell damage and it negates the biggest issue for shadow which is CC. really the only way to counter him is to use CC abilities like micro's q or.. items such as chilling. with paralax and yamato active along with shadow ultimate you will have .26 attack speed. meaning you nearly hit 4 times in 1 second thus procc'ing cerebro every second, for 2-3 seconds where no one is able to stop your massacre with CC abilities. along with +25% spell damage bonuses with the yamato, dont forget about the explosive cause along with the cerebro you will do insane amount of AOE. along with darwins + paralax you will have lots of sustainablilty and If you time your ulti + yamato + darwins correctly along with a fresh lax buff you will be unstoppable for a good 2-3 seconds most of the time killing everything very fast. EDIT: I forgot to mention that also with the pyre tanks do melt. Edited November 26, 2013 by KDawgKilla

The point you finish your build ? Just slice the fk out of the chillin' holder, honestly your ult would make your atk speed like 0.3 already, who cares about chillin'

Also, in games where you're not winning the team fights, HoM allows you to backdoor more and gives you a better chance of winning. Especially since Shadow is one of the strongest back door heroes and HoM scales well with him. But I honestly would only get it if you have to backdoor as a situational item(or in pubs where you're the only competent player on your team). I would rather take 80 dmg and 1k shield every 60s more than taking some atk speed and somewhere about 35 - 40 dmg ( Main attribute = Agi add dmg for shade ) how about just survive a fight or choose wisely in backdoor other than die over and over again just to get tower ? 1k shield help you with that, extra magic resist is also nice
Moo
The reason I put hand of mengsk is that he asked for a newbie build. Hand of mengsk requires no APM, thinking ahead of time, game knowledge, and it is very forgiving of mistakes. In a normal build I would trade it out for galactic also, as that solves the problem of low hp.

If not you should also remove shinobi out, because shinobi goods is it active :/

If not you should also remove shinobi out, because shinobi goods is it active :/ Galactic requires better timing than shinobi because shinobi's effect lasts a long time and you have to use galactic once they are committed to damaging you and before you get cc'd, whereas you just use shinobi when you are starting to get close to where a hero can see you. For a boost of damage ? It is possible to active shinobi 2 time in a teamfight, but galatic can just active right when the fight start, who would ignore a shade slicing everyone... It's like ignore a wolf to eat all of your cattle....

The shinobi active lets you move around the map much faster also, and it is great for ganking and snowballing.
