taznkid
So with the IH League getting underway, I wish to contribute more to my team by expanding the type of roles I can play. Currently I can play about 6 heroes well enough to play IH: Vorpal.Valedict, Akasha.Justicar(or is it Justicar.Akasha?),Terra.Nova, Shadow.Geminus (or was it Geminus.Shadow? Plus, can someone tell me if this hero is auto-banned in the IH League Sphynx set up, people have been telling me both yes and no),Tiberius.Rancor,James.Raynor. I also think that I play a mean Geneva, but I have decided for now to refrain from playing that hero IH. Anyway, back to the original topic: what are some general good IH heroes you think that I should master? I am currently thinking Maar, Rory, Drake, and Micro. Gravitus (usually ends up being banned, but whatever). I have checked the forums but have not found any extensive guides (or maybe I am blind) so if someone could make one I would appreciate it a lot...also, please feel free to post on what heroes you think that I should master to better help my team IH (I have already tried many, the ones I have not listed I either suck with or play only well enough for pubs). Mus
Learning T1 heroes is always useful, because when you have a team where nobody can play a T1 hero it usually has to be banned by your captain. This reduces the number of options you have. [some heroes below can be placed into more than one category, but I won't repeat them.] Current T1 heroes are: Micro, Drake, MK, Null, Akasha, Queen Split-push comps are very strong right now, so the following heroes are also good to learn: Maar, Gara, Unix And of course heroes which counter split-pushers: Dustin, Cow, Summers --------------------------------------------- Shadow is not auto banned, you probably asked some useless newb or a troll. John
Like mus said, Focus on what's banned, as there's usually a reason why the hero is banned in terms of it being strong regardless of hero comp...

taznkid
Lol someone said shadow banned. haha. Exactly what I was thinking. I wanted to play Shadow in our IH with XOFS, but Rothaga told me it was auto-banned so I ended up playing Rancor since everything else I played was either taken or banned. Oh and thanks for the in-depth explanation Mus. I think I'm going to start with learning Maar; teleporting is fun after all :) Edited November 19, 2013 by taznkid

Mus
No Maar's teleport is very versatile, and strong. -Teleport back to lane -Teleport to defend a tower -Teleport to push a tower -Teleport onto an isolated enemy hero The final one is the really strong use here. Just by placing a few wards you can get an idea of enemy positions, and whenever you see someone by themselves (usually farming) you teleport yourself and your team onto that one enemy. It's a free kill, and a good way to force a favourable engagement.

Mus
No, they don't see it if you place the teleport correctly. I've been on teams in in-house games where we have used this. We got a lot of free kills this way.
MrGrim
A different way I've tried learning new heroes is the A-Z challenge. I got it from dota and what it essentially means is winning with each hero in the pool once in abc order. It's gotten me to play a bunch of heroes I normally rarely tried. Plus It's a really good way of getting the small nuances of a hero like how they lane their abilities/passives, their advantages/shortcomings so that even if you don't have to play them you can lane against any hero with ease. On that note, Gara and lurker are prolly 2 of the most obnoxious heroes ever. I played like 10-15 games of each and still can't get the hang of them. You can tele into a tower with a creep wave and an aa/pushing hero, throw down damage reduction aura, attack the tower a couple times with your aa hero, then let the minions finish it with little risk to yourselves if you pay attention to where the enemy team is. It can also be used in a multitude of other ways, but I'm not going to name them because I'm lazy, if you feel you need to know I will write all the productive and practical uses I can think of. taznkid
So I tried playing Maar....it was terrible. I had absolutely no idea what combination of orbs created what abilities for about the first 7 minutes or so, and even then afterwards I had trouble deciding which ability to use when. Basically I just ended up as food for a enemy Shadow (granted, I only died twice and got 2 kills, while constantly annoying a Zeratul with the slow ability). Could someone make a guide for me? I couldn't find one....I think I do decently on items and talents, I just don't know how to play out the hero.

Hey Tazn. Mus's first post is pretty solid for heroes to learn: For IH games, I find these are the primary bans: (I.E. strongest heroes) Tanks: Micro, Drake DPS: Tosh, Nova, Shadow, Grunty, Boros, Zera (DPS heroes usually get banned due to someone on the team just not wanting to deal with someone specific) INT: Queen, Unix, Rancor, Raynor Supports: Brine, MK But I am relatively new to IH's so Bans seem to change on updates and items. As for your more specific question. What is Auto Banned in the IH league??? Answer: NOTHING! See rules: (Ill repost here): If BOTH team captains agree you may institute: 1) Autobans (Banning heroes BEFORE the draft begins) 2) A 3G Ban Game instead of a Draft (just stage 1 above, followed by free picking of heroes (does not have to be unique)) Remember if both teams do not agree to these rules, the default rules are draft mode with no autobans. These were my posted rules Thus the two team captains have to agree on any autobans. If there is NOT agreement, that character and item are allowed. Note: Autobans I have seen used often include 3 characters and 3 specific items on those characters. Boros can be played, but he cannot buy a lockbox Garamond can be played, but he cannot buy a shadowmourne Micro can be played, but he cannot buy an impact dial If you want these as autos, you must state so before the game starts. The other reason to have captain agreement before hand is so all players know the bans in game.
TaxHaven
As of now, people are favoring Garamond and Maar as they are strong picks. Shadow... not so much. Tassadar is a fun one to learn
Lios
Maar, ability Aura stuff : Always stay on green or yellow when out of combat and red when you are in combat ( when you gonna push use yellow since it increase timescale ) When someone gank your lane - 2 blue orb When farming 1 - 2 red orb When teamfight 1 red - 1 blue with red aura or just spam q as much as you can, I can make 5 red ball in 6s When you are low and can't join teamfight stand far away and spam 1 blue orb ( shield ) for your teammate
Moo
I was going into more detail to explain it more thoroughly, since Lios didn't seem to appreciate the value of Maar's ulti based of his next post after yours about the channel time. Switching too fast will make your mind blown, just choose one and stay with it until you get the idea how to use it, plus you shouldn't try to learn hero in IH anyway, should just learn in pubs then switch into Ih

I haven't even decided what new hero to play yet! And why the heck would I be stupid enough to learn a hero while playing IH, I thought I made it very clear in the original topic that I am learning heroes FOR IH, not IN IH. taznkid
I suggest Brine, ez ass hero and very good pick in ih. Learn grunty he is good jungle Brine I do admit is very easy...I played him once without any idea of what I was doing and I ended up I think going 10-4 or so (of course, it was a pub). As for grunty....I think I'm going to wait a bit since I think grunty has a higher skill level than what I'm used to (doesn't he do more damage the closer he is to target? I feel like that implies VERY good positioning and decision making, plus there are people out there with some ridiculous rocket sniping...). GENLORDZ
You need to know what type of hero suits you the best eg.Dps,Caster,Support,Initiator,Jungler Then you take the easiest out of it, and try playing it, if it doesn't work for you, just take a hero suggestion every game from the people around you
