Doom
I could write a long set of paragraphs about this, but why bother when everyone knows the key points: -exceptionally hard to just stay positive, since you gain way less from a win than you lose from a loss -doesn't take into account teammate's skill.... a platnum player with 4 bronze teammates will lose a crapton of rating when losing against 5 gold. -people that lag out or have to leave now and then are gonna have a net loss of rating even if they win 100% of the rest of their game -endgame lag bug happens occasionally still, resulting in a loss of rating for everyone. -there is maybe one person in a thousand that has rating for platinum or better. He probably plays something like Leo, Zeratul, or some other 1-button pub game winning hero exclusively. -most people don't care about this feature and ignore badges, but if that's the case, why is it even there? mynhauzen
All the people I know, who are above silver are: rating cheaters, who save banks, or tourney winners. The rest players are low gold(for a week or so)-silver-bronze. I've seen few good players being in bronze and i've seen lots of good inhousers who are in silver. Rating doesnt really define skill AT ALL. Imo right now centering rating on win/lose is just not right. Even tho I dont think that k/d rating would be better you can actually see bad/good players by looking at k/d. Dont get me wrong, most of the time its due to hero that people play. But I'd rather see who's k/d is low right away, than realize that this bronze is actually a pretty good player, and this gold is a complete noob. Today we had a game with 0 gold/platinum vs masters (divinesaschi) and 2 platinums. If I were to look seriosly at rating, I would probably leave right away. But we won with no chance for the other team, which just shows how relevant the rating system is now.
ANARCHY
imo rating should just be reverted to something simple like average 1500 points 10 points per win 10 points per loss the more you win the less points you get for a win and the more points you can lose, scrap this silly stuff about basing it on other teams rank because it clearly does not work & just scale the points gained or loss against the max points range between bronze and platinum or whatever it is
ginosaji
How is one supposed to care about rating when you lag out and drop (hence lose rating) 1 of 3 games? I don't care about rating, but as a mechanism to keep people in games, it's not working. Fix the end game lag before you even bother with the rating system. Mus
I love the rating system. There are always totally unintelligent newbs who say things like 'OMG I have 2 bronzers on my team'. I like to use F10 Q to exit each game at the end to make sure that I lose rating and stay on bronze. That way, when I stomp some puffed up silver/gold/plat with an over-inflated ego I make him lose a lot of rating. People who care about rating make good targets for me. taznkid
Only reason why I care about rating: My Gold Medal looks pretty. Seriously though, because I want to keep my pretty Gold Medal, I'm discouraged from pubbing alone because if I lose I then have to win around 3-4 games to just earn back the rating that I lost. I think highest I managed to get was around 1550; lost it the same day I got it. Usually I barely manage to keep it above 1460, but after losing 4 IH in a row I just reset my account because I was too lazy to work 1-2 weeks to earn back that rating (I still have a grudge against Apache because of that, because I liked my k/d ratio that was in the thousands, but now its reset). Um, do you want to rethink that statement? FYI k/d ratio is #kills / #deaths, I'm sure you know that since you put the '/' in k/d. So to have a k/d in the thousands you must, on average, get over 1000 kills for each death. Apocalyptic

zeeeend
Well platinum is achievable without low skill hacks or saving. Just pubstomp or pick op heroes. But since this end game freeze occurs its pointless to do that as you will just lose max rating every 3 games or so.
Hogwarts
i agree with zeeeend. The rating system is complete crap. replace it with some thing like you get a new badge for x amount of games played. but keep it where there needs to be x amount of people in the game for it to be recorded. An actual working ELO system is just silly. With out a proper match making system and with no penalty for rage quitting. And 1/4 games end with this long time running end game screen crash. Which as far as i can tell will remain until we get an LOTV update
Spooky
I stop care about ranking once I realized its no way to keep it high without playing premades or pubstomp heroes every single game. Right now I have golden badge with dark red name so I don't care even more. People may see how PRO I'm even before first creep wave. If they arguing with me during the game I always can say 'Do u see THAT badge? Do u know what that means?'. Pure awesomeness! ;) On more serious note - I would really like to see some more reasonable ranking system in AoS which could be free from current flaws. Simply if sth works good u care more. It becomes promoting tool to check out how far u can go GuZ and CoolNoob

Overall I think it's a wash or slightly positive. I haven't really noticed that many people focusing me. I think I've noticed more people being extra cautious than saving skillshots. On the other hand, people giving you whatever lane you want and listening when you give advice is nice. You can actually influence your team's chances at winning if you make sure your key roles have the right items. Usually all you need is a competent Tank and a half way decent AA to win. Figgonson
Remember back in the day when we could look at people's k/d before the end of the game and some people would leave because their teammates had bad k/d? An accurate rating system might do that again.
Indo
what is the maximum rating you can gain? just played with 4medium silver badges and 1 gold vs 2master 1 grandmaster and 2 gold and got +20 exactly :c
aletoledo
playing pubs exclusively, I would rather have a high bronze rank on my team than a silver. It tells me they've played enough games to know the mechanics and aren't brand new. If anything was to be improved, then some consideration for games played could be added into the formula. So a person that plays a lot of games should get some sort of advantage, even if they lose them all the time. Yeah, as crazy as this sounds, I'd prefer to identify the newbie pub feeders with bronze and veteran pub players with silver. Straight win/loss really only is meaningful for IH player ranking. It doesn't sound crazy, it's just....I don't understand what you are talking about....at all.....how is "Straight win/loss really only is meaningful for IH player ranking" a valid statement? Maybe it is just because I'm sleepy that I don't get it..... While playing pubs, I'm lucky if it's 5v5, where someone doesn't drop. Get two drops and there is a good chance the game is over before it even starts (regardless of the leaver bonus). That counts as a loss and you didn't even really play a game. Unless I'm mistaken of course, does the ranking take into consideration early losses (e.g. under 5 minutes)? My point is that rank should also reflect that the player understands the mechanics of the game. A bronze rank with 400+ games is a much more useful team-mate than a gold rank with 5 games. Maybe the solution is that everyone starts at bronze and works their way up?
Figgonson
In pubs where you are more likely to get a feeder team and go up against premade pubstomps all the time its hard to maintain a positive W/L

Allstar
I enjoy the ratings, it makes the games "matter." I really want a good solution for this because I do pub frequently and lose games to premades or have a low experience team and my rating drops so much, taking 4-5 wins to make up for 1 loss. I feel like a bag of trash though because I don't have any solution ideas and I'm just complaining to complain, sry devs :(.
