Now that

have been released. How do you think this impacts the other games in the ARTS/MOBA genre. It's supposedly much more casual than LoL, what with shared (equal) gold and exp across the team and no items (?). The graphics also seem to be on par with or better (different) from DotA 2; Kind've like League of Legends, but for men.

The gameplay and lore does look awesome though, a brilliant throwback to Blizzard's legacy titles. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot.

Dont really get it why people are calling it a shap. Tbh I feel like blizzard made a really wise decision. No last hitting wont make it casual. As if chess is casual just because if doesnt have last hits, and dota is much better just because it does. Last hits isn't something that amazing, its not solving integrals in under a minute. Not to mention it doesnt look cool at all for a person that never tried it. As if sc2 was much more better game as wol, just cause in the beggining pro separeted their workers. Well you know what? You can learn it in 30 minutes. You can learn last hit if u want very fast. Its not playing the piano skill.

HoS is a different game. Its not chess, lol or dota 2. It DOESN'T need last hit, just because it has a totally different idea behind. If u remove laning phase, game goes much faster (which is a huge plus in competitive scene). For instance if u want to play 1 game vs same skill as u in aos (in-house?), you HAVE TO SPEND 1.5-2 hours to make it happen. In HoS with matchmaking/ ratings/ leagues (probably) you will play 3-4 games in under an hour. Bo7 in dota 2 takes hours. In aos it takes the whole day (reason, why tourneys are so rare, hard to organize etc). In Hos it might take 1.5 hours at max. Which makes tourneys much more enjoyable to me.

If u remove laning phase with last hits/stores/items, that game stops centering around 2-3 carry players, that try to get good items, and goes deep into strategy, timings, teamplay, and tactics. You're talking about snowboard being bad just cause its not skiing. Its too casual, its that this etc. Its just a different game that requires different skills, that can become more popular than dota / lol just cause it will be more noob friendly and just cause its not just one map, but rather 4 (8 in the future) maps with different strategies. It is made by a blizzard. Company that can create the best competitive games out there. I dont really get why you guys dont see this.

I'm sorry, but you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I like you, Mynhauzen, you're a nice guy, but on this matter you've gone entirely off the deep end.

Well, summarizing your post, skies <> snowboard, last hitting <> solving integrals, chess > dota. Can't disagree with that, but HoS is still shap.

It's a casual game. That is the beginning and the end of the conversation. You can argue the semantics of it, but the fact remains.

Casual players will play the more casual game. I don't think HoS will be popular, as LoL already has the casual Moba-genre crowd cornered.

I wasnt saying HoS is moba. No one did, in fact. Yes, it was called blizzard dota before, but now its not moba/dota. Dustin was referring to the game, as a Hero Brawler, not as a moba. The difference is that they are in fact different games. In mobas you can in fact win without your team helping you. In different words, you're comparing counter strike and quake. Even tho both are fps, but both games are very much different. In both there's a lot of pro players. But they play differently and in quake you dont really need minerals, and in CS you cant really win the game alone. Do you see what i'm saying?

Casual players will play both dota 2 and lol too. They will play HoS too. The mechanics of dota is harder, but mechanics of sc1 was harder than of sc2, and now sc1 is dead completely. Blizz is not trying to compete vs dota developers, it tries to target different people with different marketing plan, different type of a game, with 4 maps (4 more to go). You cant really create something good in the moba field atm (and why do it anyways? Spend millions of dollars just to get money off riot ?). They are creating new genre, without trying to get into mobas.

Not the strongest mechanics games win, but something else, don't you think? Why add last hits, if there's no store and everyone has the same lvl in your team, and if there's no laning phase? They are trying to make it in under 20 minutes.

In regards of Maximuuses comment, I known many players that said dota 2 is slow, ugly and odd compared to sotis. And most of those play dota 2/lol now. Im not saying that its gonna happen to HoS. But I'll give it a shot for sure.

And btw whats so bad about casual approach to it? Do you honestly like every aspect of mobas? Do you love ''20 minutes of babysitting a carry that ends up being terrible with a support hero on which you will barely get any item'', or ''fighting on who buys the wards and the chicken'', or even ''the game is already over but let's all waste another 15 minutes until we can all leave''. And I can't imagine how confusing the item system must be for a new player. In many ways, this is pretty much one of the most hardcore games out there.

Also, every hero having a ''good skin'' and an ''evil skin'', depending on which team you're on, that's just amazing.

  • 3 weeks later...

Am I the only one who thinks the game looks bad? I mean the art style.

However I like a lot of the things they are introducing, especially the more interactive maps with objectives.

The game looks really impressive. I am to assume that this game will just be an arcade in Starcraft 2? If thats the case theres a good chance i'll switch my clan the Purple Cobras over to it.....I'll do it early too, so we can dominate that arcade, sort of like how we dominate AOS lol....

It looks more like LoL in terms of the art style, which surprised me because of how awesome they could of made it look. I mean, SotIS has better grpahics and it is just an arcade game. Not really sure why they had to dumb them down for this game. It would be much more coolio if it used SC2 graphics and had the best graphics of all the MOBAs around.

Then special effect for warcraft and diablo'll be real hard to mix in...
