taznkid
I've been trying out Shadow Geminus (the first hero I played...obviously, I was a complete newbie back then so I just fed a lot, but now that I have the experience, I play much better). I do decently in games, but usually I'm barely breaking even in kills/deaths unless my team is winning. Considering that I usually still do pretty well in kills/deaths with Nova regardless of whether my team is winning or losing, I think my problem lies with my build. So if you decide to post here, please post a talent and item build, with REASONS for it, and a general playstyle outline if possible (I think I'm okay here, but sometimes I find trouble in balancing ganking and creeping). And a general question: Shinobi Style, Timesplitter, or Both? Oh and a guide for Boros would be great, because I want to try him next :) Thanks people, you have really helped me improve with this game! taznkid
Oh and for those that might decide to point out the guide below: I don't like the build as I personally found going superheated mantle slows me down from getting lethal barb, I like just getting organic carapace afterwards. GENLORDZ
Ill do a boros one later... but I use a 4-0-2 talent with all my heroes for poking purposes, like after you kill a unit you poke your enemy for extra dmg, demigod
MrGrim
There are like 3 shadow builds all ready out there but here's a build that worked for me before I stopped playing shadow for moral and ethical reasons: Talent: Might, Fury, Demigod, Health, Swiftness, Youth Demigod helps in farming a ton, youth gives you a way to spam q pretty easily in creep waves and neutral camps without worrying much for energy early on. Skill wise it's q-w-q-e, max q then e then stats and finally w. Q is self explanatory, e because once you get going the opponent can't click on you and I like stats before vortex because I don't think level 1 vortex is much different from level 3 in terms of actual use. Item wise: 3 fusion blades+ 2 health potions - Duran's machete - Phase Cloak - Iso Pyre - Cont Shard - Shinobi - Shadowmourne - Darwin's - Your pick. This item build is what I use for most carries. Health potions in the beginning help you farm more and stay in lane even if you take a couple of hits. I like phase cloak because it goes with your passive. People don't know where your coming from on the minimap, and you can attack out of cloak and take off about 1/3 to 1/2 health with late reactions and 1 q does the trick. Pyre gets you to a good attack speed and cont shard is good against tanks. I like cont shard and pyre over crit builds because of the extra health and complete by mid game when shadow's true domination starts. After these 2 core items it should be mid game and shinobi really helps when people might be overextending a bit if a couple of towers are down. Shadowmourne rips through towers if your backdooring and is a pain in the ass to deal with in team fights. Darwin's is self explanatory and your last item is personal preference whether it be galactic, khali, phantom menace or timesplitter your preference. My games didn't last long enough for the 6th item to get a solid grip of what would be good. In terms of playstyle for shadow: Play super abusive. If the opponent is squishy, kill them by ganking. If there tanky, backdoor them while theyre pushing mid. It's super simple since you don't show up on the map. Also youre movement speed is absurd so if they do notice, you can run away pretty easily. If you see a lone hero a click and pick them off. Any shadow who either doesn't have 3-1 kill death ratio, or at least 3 solo tower kills needs to evaluate how they play. Jaysi
Sorry I'm not gonna go as in depth as you'd like but first of all, don't go crits on Shadow. Most IHers agree only nova, Kerrigan, and sometimes Boros and Balrog should go crit. Reason: they either have natural crit or multiple attacks to proc lethal barb. Also armor hard counters crits especially the new DST. I would go both Time splitter and Shinobi. A galactic defender to survive burst or barbed. A contamination Shard for hp and damage. Then probably another tank or situational item like taser or Parralax or a pyre if a tanks giving you trouble. Try to gank when a team mate calls for one or enemies are over extended. taznkid
Thanks for the fix people! My current build looks like this: 3/1/2, Might-Fury-Veteran, Fitness, Swiftness-Youth My Item Build: Duran's Machete-Lethal Barb-Executioner's Axe, Phase Cloak-Organic Carapace-Khali Blade-Shinobi Style-Shadow Mourne-Galactic Defender Changes I Plan to Make: 3/1/2: Might-Fury-Demigod, Fitness, Swiftness-Youth Item Build: Duran's Machete-Isomorphic Pyre-Phase Cloak-Contamination Shard-(For this Item, I'll have to test out my survivability; it is either going to be Organic Carapace or Darwin's Might though)-Shinobi Style-Shadow Mourne-Galactic Defender I struggled with deciding whether or not to get Timesplitter. I really did. In the end I decided not to because: It is expensive. For catching enemies, Shinobi Style, Stepping Strikes, and Vortex do the trick. The main reason is because I'm not too good with using too many actives. Between the two current posts and my own opinion, it seems Isomorphic Pyre-Shinobi Style-Contamination Shard-Galactic Defender are a must. That leaves 2 item slots for the final items. Depending on how my health pool goes, here are the four items that I am considering: Shadowmourne-Organic Carapace-Timesplitter-Darwin's Might. For those that post after this post: which of these two items do you think I should get the majority of the time (I will of course switch them out situationally, particularly Darwin's Might). Thanks for those who posted by the way, it was EXTREMELY helpful; one more question though: EXACTLY what does critical do? If I have my information correct, it deals extra damage and true damage; is this right?

GENLORDZ
Try this on Boros, Ability build is w,q,w,e,w,r,w,e,q,q,r,e,e,q,y,r,y,y. Talent build 4-0-2, Demigod, might, fury and Veteran for offense tree and the +230 energy talent with swiftness. Start with the component of culling sabre, build into culling sabre after doing first neut, then build lethal barbed, by the time you get lethal barbed you are already about lvl 7. Use the bola effectively to get kills early game and start laning in the short lane for a start, then try to lure enemies into mid lane and start team fights, allowing you to bola easily.after lethal barbed, get executioners axe, then get phase cloak. Now its time for playing like a noob. Cloak, go to enemy, then ulti and run. Final build will be Shinobi, Lethal barbed, Khali blade, FoE,Contam Shard and darwins. You can change lethal barbed for arcbound later in the game. Early game make sure you get some energy pots and no health pots to lure enemies into tower range

Moo
The first three items you should get IMO are durans machette, then phase cloak, then stun knife. Gives huge early game power and builds into items you want later. Except machette of course.

MarXX
with boros you need to be good with bola. and with late game lag, and the number of creeps that spawn it sorta takes bolas out of the equation. so if you boros youll need to make either a build that doesnt rely on bola or win before the lag starts...... I use Boros often and need to adjust some of my hero build dynamics but I digress back to my statement. I can say there is no late game lag. I pull my bolas off perfectly fine and there's no lag. Maybe it's your machine and time for an upgrade?
