You don't need a mic, it actually has a built in chat feature that allows you to type anything you need to say in the vent you don't have one.

Yay not needing things that cost money. :) Do most people have mics? Because being able to communicate without typing has made quite a few games more fun, especially call of duty and left for dead on Xbox, so I would prob get a mic anyway in light of the fact that I have a bunch of money i need a legit reason to spend on. Go getting a job when you don't have any bills.

I don't have a mic, because I'm a tightwad who needs that money for more important things (namely college). It does have a text to talk feature, but I personally don't find it that useful. Some people use the mic, some people don't. While having a microphone is certainly useful, unless you are doing tournament matches the regular chat feature built into the SCII engine should work just fine for your needs.

Most of the players, yes. Ppl use mics but you can still come without it as long as you can hear the rest xD

Being a quick game that requires quick decisions certainly requires quick communication. With that being said I personally I wouldn't want to lane with someone who can't reply instantly.

Being able to hear is a huge + but if you want to play competitive you'll eventually realise how much it helps, not to mention you'll probably make more friends being able to speak while playing.

Mumble has had all kind of voices on it, everything between 13 year olds guys ( not sure if the sex was confirmed) and people who talk back in russian ( not sure if they actually replied) and of course people who would randomly swears in spanish.

Coincidentally John is a thirty-year-old who sounds like he is sixteen.

All joking aside, having a microphone should be quite mandatory in my opinion. If you are playing at a similar level and have a similar idea of how to play the game, it is not really required - but given that all sorts of people are on mumble, all sorts of skill level, not to mention different approaches to the game, it really, really helps being able to speak with eachother.

I am not really a high-skill level, so I hope to improve by joining mumble :)

Most of the time you will find yourself listening and following instructions. But it is very useful to get in the habit of calling misses or if you need to ask a question about and item build etc. on the fly. Also things like calling out the other team positions etc.
