ICUH
I am feeling nostalgic after watching old replay... Starting SOTIS right after 3.0 release, AOS have changed a lot since then... Here are some interesting facts about old maps (I can only remember up to 3.0) These young kids would never know what the hell I am talking about. Lvl cap was 25 not 18 (I believe it was changed to that at v6.x or AOS v1.x) Most untouched hero: shadow (man, he is sooo original) Most reworked hero: Toxi (I think he remapped like 4 times or it could be Tass) Longest op hero of all time: Toxi (god v4.13 stayed 5 or 6 month) Longest up hero of all time: Cow (I think it was v5.x something, can't remember...) Every hero had a back story. Did you know that shadow and boros are brothers? There heroes can /dance drake, erekul, lz (of course RNG took our dancing erekul, better come back) Micro, Unix's infested terran, Raynor's marauder, king's marine can /cheer. There used to be a random button that allow to randomize hero and spawn right away. No coming back after pressing it but you got 200 extra minerals. And of course twins or triplets. (That was main reason why it was removed) When hero died you lose mineral. (Yep it was so hardcore back then.) There was no lurdaaaa kill. Only up to Monster kill. (It's quiet recent patch I think v6.x) When players ragequited, they take items with them. So no minerals was spared unless those items were sold. No leaver bonus what so ever. (so hardcore) Protoss had photo canons as tower and did splash damage. Zerg had sunken colony as tower and it was unavoidable. Protoss and zerg had either a pylon or a creep tumor near towers which healed mana to allies. Of course up hill, tower can't see you so everyone rushed pylon or creep tumor at beginning. (just like aeon rush) Most KS: towers, 2nd Most? creeps There use to be secret shops (run by a character) to buy op items and you need these op items to assemble better items. Secrets shops relocated at edge of maps (I think renamed mercenary shop?). It was dark shrine and ghost academy. It sold consumables. Aeon used to drop an item upon death which can be used to summon aeon or consumed to cancel out a death. Of course no Levi back then, Aeon was a king of hill. (Levi was introduced 6.x I believe?) Most unchanged item: vital infusion Most changed item: I don't know Most missed item: beacons -> BBBBBBBBBBEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAACOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNSSSSSSSS Beacons spawns a little marine pet, attacks creep, and blocks projectiles. And later it can be used for DST which rains marines. Also one more missed item: resonator (why removed? cause it was op. my 5 resonator lz will be forever in my heart) Most op item: pulse hammer (absolutely broken stun, think of stun baton that provokes on every hit) Most up item: eh... hmm I don't remember. There used to be a boot item which was must get next to beacons. Cause map was just too small and no other items had speed boost. As soon as map got larger, dev removed boot items... (funny thing) The pool or spawn area was totally open. You had to constantly move so that you don't get plucked or pulled by drake or boros (until 5.x but still you could pull with boros, until AOS) However no 5th towers near spawn area, just pool that damages other team. (until AOS I believe) YES drake plucked, not pulled. (which was more fun) There was a bug for undying drake. I think it triggered if too many nerfs and buffs apply on a single character. So flaming drake won't die just won't. Only other character that I have seen that bug was tychus. I will stop right here too much writing... Feel free to add though... So many memories... BestPlayer
3.0 was easily the most fun in my opinion. Doom and doxthefox

Eliwan
Levi was introduced in v4 iirc. Secret Shops were the best, as were sideshops. :D
Banzaiguy
People picked 5.0? Like, the 5.0 where neutrals spawned in lane? @residente I don't really see much point picking 2.0 over 3.0 given that there were not much gameplay changes between the two versions, only more heroes for 3.0 and some skill changes. Can't say which was more imbalanced though, every hero took turns being hilariously broken.
ICUH
Just to break everyone's hope Ecko (yes back sotis RNG called ecko, can't remember full name) specifically mentioned that previous map will not be appeared again. Something about breaking populations
Banzaiguy
I don't mind. Even if 3.0 might've been more fun, I don't think that they should re-release it. 3.0 was less forgiving than current AoS(remember the 100% exp denial and money loss on death?), and frankly speaking the standard right now is much lower than back then. So if you thought pub matches or even inhouse matches were one-sided now... Also, it's incompatible with the SC2 version. I mean, you've at least seen the SEA 3.0 sotis map right? It says v2.3 but it's really 3.0+. SEA had a lower version because it only NA got updated first back then. P.S You're also quite a young'un compared to me and some other(I hope they're still there at least) SEA players.
Doom
You can /cheer on a lot of heroes, including all the ones that can dance, but also others, for example Micro.Gravitus

This is actually why he changed his name; because people couldn't remember it and spell it. =w=
Revolution
I actually fixed sotis 2.0 with some help from wrath. And I have a bugged 4.0 beta map.

Banzaiguy
I actually fixed sotis 2.0 with some help from wrath. And I have a bugged 4.0 beta map. Interesting. I didn't know you used the editor as well. Edit: Oh no, 4.0 is winning now. That version traumatized me with the largest exodus in sotis history(seemed that way to me). Goddamn bullet time(do we still have that btw?).

Crimson
Will say I do miss the old drakes hook more it was more fun fishing that way. sotis 3 to 5 had abit more uniqueness to it I found over the current aos. Now aos sure is alrite don't mind the changes like some things from the old over the new but in some areas it seems they back track to much which gets annoying some times. Wish they bring viron back lol so fun to kill an so fun to kill people with, they should add classic heros to the tab allowing it to be voted to turn it on or off which would be cool an add more to the game that it has lost over the changes, as well to see the old stack up to the new. Nuparu
I HATED old boros' pull. Drake was fun though; his pull when it had a large hitbox was pretty interesting. I definitely miss mah chrono dagger D:

Game pace used to be much smoother imo.
doxthefox
Silly youngling. The real old boros had no pull :) says the 18 (maybe 19 now?) year old. Drake with magnitude in 3.0 and the observer I named Bob hiding in the trees between the first and second towers and the blind spot on the cliff next to aeon. You just walk by and get magnitude/plucked. Problem? Who needs a ward when you have a mobile stalker with detection right? This conversation gets boring when we bring it up every month. Why don't they release the old maps already. Brax hook a brother up. I'll come get owned in mechwarrior with you and Marche in return. I already d/l'd it, just need to patch and learn how to move... then attack... then positioning... and i'll be good to go.

Revolution
Interesting. I didn't know you used the editor as well. Edit: Oh no, 4.0 is winning now. That version traumatized me with the largest exodus in sotis history(seemed that way to me). Goddamn bullet time(do we still have that btw?). Eh it was more of practicing using the editor.. i'm not that great with it i was just fixing bugs where infested civilians would randomly spawn on heroes and creeps when they attacked and some of the heroes skills wouldn't work. I fix all that, but the biggest bug was with the veterancy. I needed wrath to fix that haha. @psyght I would have to publish the map onto your sc2 account unless you want the bugged version. LOLLMAO
Gotta love v4 where toxi completely tanks everybody with spell leech and the development of OP heroes... (I just played from v4 onwards, so I don't know about early versions ) Anyone know what happened to the character "viron"? Is viron coming out or just a false hope? He's been delayed/ignored for so many patches now.
Revolution
Viron left the imperial sanctum after causing unspeakable horrors. Everyone was so butthurt and scarred that I think Ecko is giving everyone a nice break before he unleashes Viron's again to plague the sanctum with new and improved unspeakable horrors. Allstar
I'm not sure which version I played, but the pool was definitely water and it was definitely Oct-Nov 2011 when I stopped. The side shops were still there and shortly after I stopped is when the map got larger. I stopped playing just a few days before the map got larger and I only heard from friends who still played. I had fun back then, and do still now. My only real complaint about the diffrerence is so many heroes. Something like 40 heroes now, back then only 20ish. It was definitely harder but the same thing can be said about Halo 2 online play. The most difficult to gain rank and maintain, but the most competitive as well. I don't mind the gameplay of AoS currently but it is annoying how my stats seem to reset so often. Fun post to read OP.
