Hogwarts
NA has been using a new picking system lately that we call Random Draft. This system is as it says, Draft i.e no duplicate heroes and random hero pics. We input all 41 heroes into a website that divides them into groups of 10 "minus star scream" and we take the team 2 and team 3 because both of these teams have exactly 10 heroes, Team 1 ends up with 11 heroes. I will provide the means for you the general public and EU to use this system. Generally how this works is you pick teams like normal currently in NA we use 1,2,2,2,1, First pick gets to choose from the 10 heroes in Team 2 and 2nd pick chooses from team 3 " The reason we ignore team 1 is because it generates 11 heroes instead of 10, As more heroes are introduced this will obv change" With this system there are no hero bans all 10 heroes in your pool are a free pick. Every game we have used this system the games have been balanced and close competitive games, it provides unique team comps and forces a lot of people to use heros outside there normal picks, Its fun and different and casual, Not to mention it speeds up the pre game lobby by quite a bit instead of spending 30 mins figuring out bans and draft Hero List Brine Micro Drake Kerrigan Cain Biotron Cow Balrog Tychus Lord Z Vorpal Marine King Justicar Leo Shadow Boros Zera Darpa Rancor Vespus Tass Grunty Vergil Nova Tosh Feral Crackling Rory Egon Maar Unix Dustin Erekul Raynor Gara Cyprus Jackson Queen Null Summers Medic Website that generates the pool http://chir.ag/projects/team-maker/ Screen Shot of the website, The first pic is default 2nd one is how yours should look. Have fun guys !! Special thanks to WhaleTits for this picking system. Francuz, Ironsights and akanna
EterNity
I heard in China server, players take a calculus test before each game and then pick teammates base on their test scores. The person who scores highest gets to pick hero first. It was always a balanced game. Time, oez, Misantrophy and 2 others

On topic: This is a terrible idea, if one team gets all the OP heroes and the other team gets all the shap heroes, there's no point in playing. Not balanced at all
WhaleTits
actually that has yet to happen. every game has been very unique and more balanced then 3g/draft games it has also encouraged some unique play with underused heroes FruitNinja, Psyght and akanna
Ironsights
This sounds like a lot of fun, actually... I am far more tempted to bother with IH using this method than the bans...the whole idea of banning this or that always bugged me. Hmmm. I have time off coming...this might be worth looking into. akanna
When do these drafts usually take place? I would totally play one of these games I really like this idea becuase it encourages a lot of creativity
WhaleTits
whenever we inhouse, we decide what kind of game its going to be while setting up teams. so... its kinda random times

WhaleTits
fyp probably true this was my variant of single draft, or whatever its called. i dunno if dota had this exact version or not :P
BestZeratul
Dota has both single draft and random draft implemented. Single Draft Each player is given a pool of three heroes to choose from; each hero being a random choice for each attribute - strength, agility, intelligence. Players can choose from one of those three heroes, re-pick a hero; but players can not random, nor can they swap heroes with their teammates. Random Draft A limited hero pool of 22 heroes is available for players to choose, however players cannot choose their hero straight away - the game alternates between players allowing them their slot to choose a hero. The order of choosing heroes in Random Draft is: Radiant #1 PICK -> Dire #1, #2 PICK -> Radiant #2, 3 PICK -> Dire #3, #4 PICK -> Radiant #4, 5 PICK -> Dire #5 PICK. from dota2wiki And since you can swap in random draft it's pretty much the same. WhaleTits
ah. in my version, you don't share hero pools with the opposing team. that would be more balanced. maybe we should start doing that :P a pool of 20-22 heroes instead of two pools of
BestZeratul
RD is basically a faster and less try hard version of -cm. So is SD, and SD forces you to expand your hero pool, even though it sometimes creates imbalanced hero compositions.
Spooky
This is a terrible idea, if one team gets all the OP heroes and the other team gets all the shap heroes, there's no point in playing. Not balanced at all Statistically its almost impossible. I like that idea, hope we gonna try this

Hogwarts
meh its prob more blanched using the same pool, but to many games we see almost exact mirror match ups and its boring, and there has yet to be a one sided game
BestZeratul
It's not mirror if you're drafting dummy.
Hogwarts
It's not mirror if you're drafting dummy. oo i misunderstood, so you normal draft from a hero pool of 20 from 40ish, the current method is free pick from 2x hero pools of 10 i just took it as a free pick from a hero pool of 20,

Qlx
Make a little app for that with java maybe, that randomly generates 5v5 heroes. Idk but I dislike this paste-hero-list-random-team-creator random thing a lot. :p I like the Idea of complete random teams tho. I'd enjoy teams formed of one support, one AA, two int, one Tank as well, so the picks don't get completely random and still offer variety. I can do make that next Weekend, easy thing to do. Eliwan
tbh, another way would be giving each team 3/4 random heroes of each attribute. =w= This mode is very fun. I've listened to a few times and people making team comps is hilarious. d=
FruitNinja
So how does this work? Do you get the team comp, then give the heros to players who want them? Anyway, I imagine this is very similar to a pub match but with skilled players.
Hugz
Isnt there a way for developers to adjust game with some sorta autorandom mode integrated in the game? So u can choose this mode from startup where everyone is randomly selected a hero ?

There is, and it is something that ecko wants to do eventually, but it takes a while from what he told us and its not on his priority list. akanna
KinGofDaBerG
So tried this system last night and basically the 1st game was relatively balanced, next game was a nightmare being up against Tosh balrog, MK, Vorpal, the could have pick drake, but the pick tychus, where our team was Rory Kerri zeraa darpa and Lz. Tell me that's fair... even though team2 won :) I was on team two :) still we should have never won going against such heroes... no balance what's so ever
