KinGofDaBerG
So there hasn't been a tourney for a while and I would like to try get one going again, but I wanna try or ask now if people would consider paying a entry fee to play in the toirny where the money goes to the prize pool and so on... As this will allow for tournaments to be played more frequently, a garenteed prize even if it's small (as money seems to be the main contributor), and would help me not forking over money twice every year :) I mean for this game to become competitive, there needs to be a competitive scene and inh and pub don't cut it, if however no one see this game to have a potential to become something more then we can stay in the system we are now, but this could be a way to get this game going in the right direction! teej
I would, but I dont think I'm good enough for a tournament. I am but a young padawan haha. I really should try some inh games...
KinGofDaBerG
But you see this is where the problem falls, you shouldn't need to play inh, but rather form a team with your buddies from pun and practice together as a team, and then challenge other teams! But I'm glad ur keen! Hopefully more players would be keen!
Rem
If my team still played aos id be in love with this idea, but I was the weakest member of our team and am the only one left

MaximuuuS
Obviously the tourney without any prize will get more people than the paid one. I don't have PayPal and don't want to think how to pay or get paid. Additionally, after 2-3 tournaments less and less people will pay because there is not much sense in sponsorship of John+4 ;) BestPlayer

Collecting mandatory entry fees from participants by tournament hosts is clearly forbidden by Blizzard. You may, however, collect voluntary fees and accept payments from sponsors, donators etc. in amount sufficient for small tournaments (5000 USD). Exceeding those limits requires acquiring non-standard license. I would, but I dont think I'm good enough for a tournament. I am but a young padawan haha. I really should try some inh games... But you see this is where the problem falls, you shouldn't need to play inh, but rather form a team with your buddies from pun and practice together as a team, and then challenge other teams! But I'm glad ur keen! Hopefully more players would be keen! Precisely. Majority of players are average at most. Join with your friends and have fun. Obviously the tourney without any prize will get more people than the paid one. I don't have PayPal and don't want to think how to pay or get paid. Additionally, after 2-3 tournaments less and less people will pay because there is not much sense in sponsorship of John+4 ;) For scene as small as custom map people should play because they enjoy playing, not because of money. If you pay them for playing, you will develop a scene where everyone expects to get paid for playing. And once fundings are cut... all is gone. There are better incentives for participation and personal gain should be considered the least important.

Misantrophy
I would, but it all depends of time issues, although I know is complicated to make a schedule that everyone likes lol
KinGofDaBerG
Ye treebeard my account is weird no one can pm me xD but the whole fee for the tournament would work as a donation, and the entire amount would be given to the winners. No money would be made for the game. Well that's how I would assume it would work! I don't mind organizing it, when I get back from holiday I will try sport it out, good to see people are keen! akanna
Since its an online game, you could in theory make regular tourneys using the same format as IH, where everything is strictly online, and no one needs to link up. That way its free for any team to enter. Could do it over mumble as long as teams register in advance (so someone can make brackets) Or we could rig up a website to accept team registrations and auto generate brackets from registered teams for tourneys. It wouldn't be that hard to code and would fully automate the process. Just a thought.
Qlx
Right, what's the problem of a Tournament with no entry fees and no prize? Fight for pride!
KinGofDaBerG
Cause usual participation is pretty bad for those games!

IMBrew
I dare to differ. PM your mail or catch me on skype: oldent85. I double dare you, During the money tournament a member of John + 4 didnt show up at all and we had to find replacement in last 3 days. Meanwhile in tournament itself other teams had problems with members not being able to show up on time or just skipping the games which caused a lot of drama mind you. akanna
If you host the entire tourney online, nobody has to show up at all, they just have to sign in ;)
NoWaterJustIce
Maybe when HoTS comes out we can selebrate global play by having a global tournament. i know that in past it has been hard to get a great tournament going because they dont have enough accounts or people are having a problem relocalizing. I know that i wasnt able to play in the lastest tournament because i couldnt get on EU server.
BestZeratul
Well you have to go to the playoffs to even need to relocalize ...
BestPlayer
quidstman is making a kool story, seeing as how afrikan personally ensured there were plenty of eu akkounts awailable.
OldEnt
Quoting time! Or we could rig up a website to accept team registrations and auto generate brackets from registered teams for tourneys. It wouldn't be that hard to code and would fully automate the process. Just a thought. Doing brackets online on dedicated site is a good idea as there are plenty of those (and free). It is good, however, to always have a screenshot copy to post on forums once everything is done. Nothing is as reliable as single screenshot which is easy to copy and embed. Registrations should be exclusive to official forums. Since people have to actually visit *and register on official forums* it increases chances of staying in the Community after event is over. I double dare you, During the money tournament a member of John + 4 didnt show up at all and we had to find replacement in last 3 days. Meanwhile in tournament itself other teams had problems with members not being able to show up on time or just skipping the games which caused a lot of drama mind you. Yes, once personal gain comes into math things can go down really quick. :'( Maybe when HoTS comes out we can selebrate global play by having a global tournament. i know that in past it has been hard to get a great tournament going because they dont have enough accounts or people are having a problem relocalizing. I know that i wasnt able to play in the lastest tournament because i couldnt get on EU server. Well you have to go to the playoffs to even need to relocalize ... quidstman is making a kool story, seeing as how afrikan personally ensured there were plenty of eu akkounts awailable. The problem was not the number of accounts at disposal but need to use relocalizer or install second copy of SC2. The process can be tricky and buggy. Fortunately, with the launch Heart of the Swarm even people who will not buy the expansion will get access to Global Play (excluding Chinese and users of special low-cost licenses).
