Introduction Maar is a very versatile hero. He can be played differentially and can Slow, heal and deal massive damage with Heatwave at a very long range. He is also very sustainable if played correctly as he can regain health with sap easily. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Skills His passive ability reduces the enemys' sight inside a 13.5 radius by up to 4.5 Power of Destruction [W] will create a Red Orb. Power of Creation [E] will create a Blue Orb. Liberation [Q] will release the spell he predetermined with Orbs. Mass Teleport [R] will Teleport Maar and any ally Hero nearby to the target location, with or without vision. Maar's has nine different spells, selected by quantity and color of the orb(s): 1 x RED.................[Heatwave]..........Unleash a ball of heat exploding at the target after 1,8 Seconds, dealing 65-200+65% INT Damage. 2 x RED.................[Heatwave Plus]..Unleash a bigger sphere traveling faster and dealing 65-200+130% INT Damage. 3 x RED.................[Destroyer Aura]..Create an aura around maar dealing 40-100+20% INT. 1 x BLUE...............[barrier]................Create a shield with 70-225+65% health. 2 x BLUE...............[Frost Wave].........Damage and slow enemys' by 60% for 2.25 seconds, dealing 60-210+60% INT Damage. 3 x BLUE...............[Creator Aura]......Create an aura restoring 40+10% INT health. 1 x RED 1 x BLUE [sap]....................Deal 150% INT damage while recovering the same. 1 x RED 2 x BLUE [savior Aura] .......Nearby enemies deal 25% less damage. 2 x RED 1 x BLUE [Vanguard Aura]...Nearby allies gain +11% time. _______________________________________________________________________________ 3. Playstyle Because Maar has so many Spells, the playstyle can vary a lot. It is possible to play Maar as a tank, as an AA hero (which i wouldn't recommend) and as a caster. I for myself think he's best as a caster, because he lacks an escape mecanism besides his teleport and his base stats are not that good as well, regarding Weapon Damage and Armor. Even when you've decided to play as a caster there's plenty of styles to decide from. You can focus on healing (support), which i wouldn't recommend, or you can use Heatwaves (plus obviously), Frostwaves & Saps to effectively spread the enemy team. Maar can very well be played as a Lone wolf, mainly because of Heatwave plus and its extreme range. _______________________________________________________________________________ 4. Talents I would recommend this for use as a caster. [Picture--] Fitness gives you +180HP Discipline increases spell resist by 7%. Integrity gives you +8 Armor. These are to descrease your squishiness. Maar is by default very squishy and dies easily to any AA heroes, until his Sap can make up for the health lost (300+Int). That's what we want to avoid by any means. Prodigy decreases Cooldown by +12%. Brilliance increases Energy regen by 1,2% Youth grants you +230 Energy. _______________________________________________________________________________ 5. Skill order 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 W E W E W E W E R Y R Q Y Y Q R Q Q This is only a suggestion, you can't do anything wrong. If your laning phase is very peaceful you can wait until you upgrade W & E, as they cost more Energy per Upgrade. Use your F whenever you're down -18% in energy, so you can stay until you have gained enough Minerals to get an item such as a Higgs-Boson Capacitor (2x Storm Pauldrons, +42INT) _______________________________________________________________________________ 5. Build Buy a Duran's Pendant as your first item. I like rushing an Argus Crystal because It gives the highest INT and its Ultimate grants +20% Spell damage. Then, to increase your damage, Gravity Edge. Farming should now be easy. Buy a Nitrogen Retrofit, if you know the Game will be longer an Ihan crystal and Stars Fury. Buy another Argus crystal. When 10 Minutes have passed, sell the Ihan Crystal. If you lack sustainability and are close to dying often get an Organic Carapace or Force of Entropy. If not, Another Argus will increase your Damage again. [Have a suggestion? ^Comment below] ............1........ ..........8............... / ............2.................................................... ............3....................................................[Gravity Edge] ............4.................................................... ............5........ ..7..(10Minutes).. / / ............6....................................................[stars Fury] _____________________________________________________________________________ 6. Basics Laning/Early game: I suggest laning Mid. Create 3 Red Orbs at the spawn (so your energy is full when going mid). Cast one Destroyer Aura per Creep wave, and try to last-hit as many creeps as you can. Attack the Ranged Unit (Hydralisk, Stalker) once, as it'll be lasthit by your creep when the rest already died if you don't (That'll give you some extra Minerals :D). If the enemy is desperate enough (or dumb) to stay inside your Aura, don't hesitate - go for the early kill. Else, don't waste too many Heatwaves (plus) on trying to hit it. I don't find it very damaging early game anyway. In teamfights, try to Frostwave escaping enemys and aim 1.8seconds beyond them with Heatwave plus. Try to keep your Earlygame flawless! Mid game: After you've gotten Gravity Edge AA heroes are a little problem. Be careful there. After Nitrogen and it's additional 550 Health you have less to worry about, and you can now easily 1v1 Heroes (EXCEPT SHADOW, will talk about that later...). Lategame: The squishier the Enemy Heroes are the more fun you'll have. Heatwave's/Sap's Damage exceeds 1000 easily and killing Running Targets is no problem with Nitrogen Retrofit's slow and some practice. General: Use Destroyer Aura in Teamfights (Dont lay it down) and Heatwave the center of the Teamfight. Frostwave escaping targets and Sap whatever gets close to you. Watch your back and get Truesight if the enemy Unix/Ghost/Zeratul.. loves you :). Wards help a lot. Heatwave travel a bit after their arrival, you can scout a bit with them. Try to Aim at targets at the maximum distance, as it will take heatwave less time to explode on its destination. When running around the map (River!) have a Sap prepared. Must-know: Press W & E simultaneously to create two Orbs at the same time. One Spell will have double the CD the other one has. This allows you to sap twice very quickly, dealing a lot of damage and increasing your sustainability a lot. Shadow: For me playing against Shadow isn't too hard, 1v1 ing him as Maar is. Try to kill him before he can attack you. I for myself struggle to klick him even when not in the Shadow walk. _______________________________________________________________________________ That's it for now. I hope this guide helps some people to try Maar without being frustrated because you get owned quickly :D *He's so underplayed, yet not Underpowered, just a bit harder then other Agi caries. In a hard caster build you want one argus, a yamato, and a grav edge for their passives and actives and the rest is gravy and does not matter where the int comes from. A lot of times you want nitrogen refit (especially on MAAR), but aside from those 4 items and an ihan you eventually sell, you are way better off getting cooldown/defense items like electric mantle and chilling artifact or electric mantle and dark steel titan which is an excellent item on MAAR because he can kite heroes all day long with that item (if you don't like DST get warp shard or impact dial for evasion purposes). Then again the build I usually use on MAAR everybody knows about and is radically different than what most people do, but if I were to go a hard caster build on any hero you want at least two defensive items that have good utility mechanics. Legacy Posted December 26, 2012 Report Share Posted December 26, 2012 it seems to work for me, because i just tower hug firing heatballs, and they have -3 vision at lvl 1. then its usually the last thing i finish.
