I feel that many people today on AoS, Ihers and pubbers alike are extremly rude to people who are learning the game or have just joined their first game, i understand people getting angry at raging trolls but i was in a pub the other day an some guy asked "How to play?" and a guy on my team was like "Leave you new user" before the game even started! i feel that this is very rude to people learning to play AoS. this also seems to be a big reason why people dont want to play, when i looked over the reviews i saw alot of people saying that the main reason this game isnt in 2nd or 3rd place is because of its community. i understand how new players can sometimes ruin a game but if their intent on learning the game they dont do it purposely. i started this thread because this is exactly what i got when i started playing, i joined a game didnt know wth i was doing, my team told me to leave and since it was v3,0 it was amazingly confusing. so i quit! and i didnt play for 3 months after that. and now 1 and a half years later im a really good AoS player and play in major mumble IH games. this is just 1 example of how a new player can become a very good top-flight mumbler.

The point of this thread is to think of solutions to this major problem, and here is my suggestion :

4 easy steps :

1 -if someone seems to be new ask them if they are new to the game

2 -if they say yes then tell them to go to the pool and read the help menu

3 -then tell them after the game to go to aeonofstorms.com and read bens guide to all things AoS (Very good guide btw)

4 -Try and help them learn the game by correcting them, helping them, and even in some cases personally teaching them (i did this once and now hes a good bud and is also amazingly good)

Thanks and this is a very serious thread so please no trolling.

Tl;Dr

Jk. On a proper note, it is usually your mid-low level players who rage at newbies. High level players rage at mid-level players; and if they're top tier, at the rest of the world, your mother, plus the indigenous whale population.

While this is all nice and comforting to have encouragement for people new to the game; it is expected that people who join AoS or more relevantly, SC2 this late are likely to belong to the bandwagon of fellows who played pinäta to the stupid stick, that or they are your corpulent 12 year old brother/sister/hamster on their first-time encounter of the Internet. Not to stereotype, but we've unfortunately all seen more than a fair share of newbs who are not only stubborn, but also blind, deaf, and have difficulty circumventing their b.net swear filter. Advice does not work on them. This community is not unfriendly, not for lack of trying. But I do believe the patience of many high level players for teaching has worn off after much encounters with the mentally incapacitated,

I don't mind people not knowing a great ability order or item build for a hero. But you have people coming in, not typing, not buying items, not staying in lanes, then telling you to relax when you tell them wtf they're doing wrong. Maybe I'm paranoid but when I downloaded LoL and then the DotA 2 beta, I researched the shap out of them before jumping into a game. When AEONOFSTORMS.COM FOR HELP AND GUIDES is displayed for 5 minutes while the game loads and you do all the bullshap I listed, you deserve to get treated like shap.

As stated in my rage thread... i can only be friendly for so long. If the person is competant enough to want to learn the game he/she will ask you after you've raged at them & the team what items are good for them, so forth but as mentioned by Strike, you get these dumb flobs that make a dead dog look intelligent that don't listen or even understand the idea of teamwork let alone the idea of a moba (yes... i called it moba) that come online & ruin the game for the other 4 ppl playing in that team by doing shap that any sensible person would avoid doing. That shap's just redundant.

I personally try to play single player for any of the "arcade" games before actually moving into the multi user phase... this way you get an understanding of what suppose to be done/how you're suppose to play it/why you do the things you do/when are you suppose to do things/where the game is suppose make it fun. After doing this & i feel i have learned as much as i can to atleast play the game somewhat, then & only then do i move to the multi player side of life & play.

I have rules for new people.

1) say you're new at the start of the game, not when you're 0-10 or else what's the point by then.

2) listen to the experienced players who are trying to win the game, as they usually couldn't care less if you're new as long as you listen and try your best.

3) don't pretend like you know what you're doing just to show up the experience player or any player for that matter.

4) don't bm the other team if you're being carried or even if you're doing well as if you're sole reason for winning a TEAM game.

If they don't follow the rules I just wait in the pool until it's time to surrender or rq and start another game as they start feeding like crazy usually. Most of the time it's not about being new, but about the attitude some of the newer players exhibit. At the same time the experienced players needs to realize when to show tough love to the n00b and attack them and when it's not working and back off for the betterment of the team.

when i say "new player" i mean new player which practically is someone of has litterally joined their first game. a silent troll (someone who takes mid, feeds and doesnt even speak or listen) or ragers are something else, what i am saying is trying to help new players learn the game, not people who have played 300 games but still are horrible. theres a large difference between the two.

I try and be helpful to new players and tell them how to shop, what to buy, etc. but sadly about half of them are the mute new usery type who not only have no clue how to play the game, but also have no clue how to chat. They usually end up feeding 10-20 times and ruin the game and then usually leave at that point if the rest of the team has not left already.

A couple of days ago a couple of guys (on the North American server) joined and had voice chat activated, however, because they were speaking in Spanish, nobody had a clue what they were saying. Before the creep waves had spawned they had already given the other team a double kill and first blood and obviously the other three players were quite unhappy. I told them how they could learn the game and I got a "stfu #$@#@" and they proceeded to feed the other team about 10 kills in the first 3 waves (i.e. they died as fast as they possibly could). Then after the other players on the team pleaded for these two guys to leave the game so at least it would be a 5v3, another guy dropped and I quit soon thereafter (I very rarely quit, but you can't surrender until 25 minutes unless you have 3 or less players and I doubt these idiots would of surrendered so it was kind of a huge waste of time at that point to keep playing).

Fortunately, though there are plenty of bad players in AoS, almost everyone these days is experienced enough to know the basics. The biggest problems unfortunately tend to be premade pubstomping crews of 5 players going against a team of 3 or 4 due to droppers and rage quits. Veteran mode was promised to return a long time ago, but that sounds like a broken promise and a broken record to keep complaining about it.

The situation with this game is as thus: there are about 30 people that I've met, that are good with most heroes. There are an additional ~50 people that are good with op heroes (they play op heroes really well, but never ever play balanced heroes, even though they probably wouldn't do bad with them). The rest just perform badly no matter what heroes they play, there is still somewhat of a skill range (average-dreadful). The average beginner is as good is somewhere in the middle. The REALLY bad players actually have quite a few games to their name (I'd say the worst player I've met had about 200-1300 kdr, -10 rating, ~100 games played). There are also the players that have learned to play some hero, but have no conception of teamwork, flanking, map-vision, boss control, positioning, initiation, teamfighting, etc. These are the usual ragers, but have almost positive kdr and ok rating. These are also the people that spam insults at new users, even if they are not doing well themselves, and basically look for anyone to blame. I strongly doubt that making a post here will affect any of them, since most do not ever visit this site. The only thing that anyone can do about them is hope that they get really good with the few heroes they play, and become the next DaStarz type of player in that they do their own thing well enough that their rants and boiiin' is endurable for everyone else.
